What are the symptoms of a nickel allergy?
Metallic objects and some foods can create nickel allergy symptoms
Treatment for nickel allergies usually involves the use of corticosteroids in creams designed to treat the affected area. A new treatment using calcium carbonate essentially blocks the nickel from penetrating the skin, so people who may need to wear nickel-containing jewelry, eyeglasses, or other accessories may be able to prevent the harmful effects of nickel. Better yet, because the treatment goes on the metal, not the skin, this means that the item is effectively rendered hypoallergenic and there isn't a need to keep applying skin creams and barriers.
Notes and Special Information
Special note: When in doubt, get a nickel allergy test in order to prove it is nickel, and not some other metal, causing the allergy.
